rubeola
measles with an accompanying rash
rubella
disease with a rash caused by the rubella virus
roseola
disease with small, rosy patches on the skin (usually caused by a virus)
varicella
disease with a rash known as the chicken pox, caused by the varicella virus
impetigo
contagious skin disease caused by infectious agents (like staphylococci) that cause pyoderma (pus-containing)
tinea
(ringworm) caused by fungi, skin condition that causes intense pruritus (itching)
candidiasis
yeast fungus that causes common rashes (like diaper rash, athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), scalp ringworm (tinea captitis), ringworm of the beard (tinea barbae)
urticaria, hives, eczema
skin conditions characterized by dermatitis
ecchymosis
bluish-purple skin mark that may result form a skin injury that can cause blood to leak out of blood vessels
purpura
condition with extensive hemorrhages into the skin covering a wide area. Starts with red areas, which turn purplish, and then brown, in a couple of weeks.
rosacea
vascular disorder that appears as red blotches on the skin, particularly around the nose and cheeks.
petechiae
tiny, pin point ecchymoses
furuncle
a localized, pus-producing infection originating in a hair follicle
carbuncle
a pus-producing infection that starts in subcutaneous tissue and is usually accompanied by fever and an ill feeling
abscess
a localized infection usually accompanied by pus and inflammation
