QUESTION: Why Amazon
I’m thrilled at the possibility to work at Amazon for a couple of key reasons.
First, a core tenant at Amazon is customer obsession. I firmly believe that a strong concentration on the customer results in a better product and a happier customer, and Amazon is exemplary in this regard. I embrace and apply this philosophy at my current employer and place customer centricity at the forefront of the product development lifecycle. The byproduct has resulted in applications and capabilities that tightly align with the customers needs and help propel the organization. It’s important to strike a harmony for both.
Second, a former roommate, Karan Bhonsale, is a Senior Software Engineer (People Tech Org) at Amazon. During our occasional catch ups, he has always spoken highly of Amazon’s culture, principles and talent. That excellence is table stakes and how exciting it is to contribute to Amazon’s innovative spirit. It’s rare to find someone so emphatic about where they work and this speaks volumes about how Amazon views and recognizes its employees.
Third, I’ve spent the last 5 years working for a SaaS AI company with the objective of not only democratizing AI, but also packaging complex solutions in simple and intuitive ways for our customers. As part of this effort, I led a voice enablement initiative that revealed how powerful and frictionless speech-based technologies can be without limiters like keyboards. For this reason, I’m excited at the opportunity to join the Alexa team.
