Q

How do miracles reveal God?

A

Miracles such as Lourdes show that he loves everybody and wants them to be healthy. They show that he is always involved in the world. He is not limited by the scientific laws. He reveals himself to be unfair as why would he help some people and not all and also that he is trivial because why would he perform miracle that are not important or believable/ possible.

Q

What is Hume’s argument against miracles?

A

There is never enough evidence to support them, witnesses can be uneducated and therefore are willing to accept extraordinary events because they have no other way to explain them. Religion depends on miracles and different religion have different miracles and they cannot all be right. Witnesses can be unreliable as they could be biased, they desperately want miracles to happen so they exaggerate stories to make accounts of miracles.

Q

What are the problem with Hume’s argument?

A

Being that there is never enough evidence they say that Hume has missed the point of what a miracle actually is (a rare occurrence going outside the laws of nature) When he says that the witnesses are unreliable it is said that the events are well researched and the witnesses interviewed to make sure that the information is reliable. When he said that the witnesses were uneducated they say that people with a high level of education have also reported miracles. Finally with regard to religion depending on miracles they mostly support the belief that they are referring to and go with the teachings. There aren’t any that go against the religions beliefs.
