What is exercise PHOENIX EDGE?

A
  • This takes place during week 5 during module 1.
  • This takes place at Cranwell Airfield.
  • It is the consolidation of the military skills module, which allows the cadets to practice the following following skills in a simulated environment; Establishing a FOB, Battle Skills, Control of Entry, Patrols and First Aid.
  • Cadets are tested on their Command, Leadership and Management skills.

Tell me about module 2 at MIOT?

A
  • Module 2 is called ‘Development 1’
  • The objective of this module is ‘Knowing and leading yourself in order to lead others’
  • Develop physical and mental resillience and focus on authentic leadership principles, behaviours and capacities.
  • During week 3 there will be a trip to the Robson Resilience Centre Crickhowell.
  • Will begin to learn about Air & Space Power, delivered by Portsmouth business school.
  • In week 6 cadets will take part in Ex EAGLES EDGE

What is Ex EAGLES EDGE?

A
  • Takes place during week 6 during module 2
  • Takes place at Beckingham Ranges
  • Deploy to a fictitious country called ‘Gorgas’, to a local Airfield under direction from the JFACC
  • Cadets will lead their teams through a myriad of complex problems and dynamic scenarios.
  • They will establish vital operations, conduct reconnaissance missions, respond to conventional threats, and support the Host Nation Forces.
  • Exercise eagles edge is designed to be the practical counterpart to the command and leadership theory learnt thus far.
  • There will be information learn’t that will feed into future scenarios through the course.

What is module 3 at MIOT?

A
  • Module 3 is called ‘Development 2’
  • The focus of this module is ‘Exploring leadership - Practice and Develop’ focussing on Command and Control (C2) and in-depth elements of RAF Leadership.
  • In week 3 there will be a mini C2 exercise, COMMANDERS EDGE
  • Week 4 - 6 will be a ‘carousel’ of three topics:
    — Air C2 in the Air and Space environment at the ASWC
    — Care and welfare in leadership taught by the Padre’s
    — Line management responsibilities taught at OACTU
  • Students will shift to a self directed physical education programme.

What is Ex COMMANDERS EDGE?

A
  • Takes in week 3 during module 3.
  • Command and control exercise as part of a simulated Expeditionary Air Wing Deployment.
  • Cadets will develop skills in mission planning including: Reviewing Tasking Orders, Generating Synch Matrices, Mission Timelines, Evaluating COA’s, Red Teaming, and Briefing Practices.

What is module 4 at MIOT?

A
  • Module 4 is the Consolidation module.
  • This is further divided into the consolidation and transition and graduation phase.
  • Allows cadets to demonstrate their understanding of the course material through a mixture of practical and written activities.
  • There will be an Air C2 exercise, Ex ASTRA’s EDGE
  • There is a deployment to the Robson Resilience Centre Granton-on-Spey
  • There is a week-long management simulation exercise
  • And a week of academic assessments in Air & Space Power and General Service knowledge for Officers.
  • The outcomes of these activities, when combined with the RISE assessment scores acquired throughout the course, will give OACTU staff a picture of suitability of each cadet. This will allow them to decide on either: Graduation, re-training, or removal from training.
  • If successful, cadets will move onto the Transition and Graduation phase.
  • This will consist of Change Management, Drill, PH2 information, Officer development, officer need to know, coaching and graduation.

What is Ex ASTRA’s EDGE

A
  • This takes place in week 1 during the consolidation module.
  • Is a deployment in a simulated Expeditionary Air Wing HQ.
  • Simulation of a modern Air and Space C2 environment.
  • Cadets will lead small groups managing a series of critical, complex events.
  • They will be tested on their Command, Leadership and Management skills.
  • The aim of this exercise is to empower cadets to be more confident on matters of Air and Space Power and enrich their skills as air-minded leaders.
