What is minority influence
When a small group of people want to persuade the majority to adopt their beliefs , attitudes and behaviours.
-leads to internalisation.
What are the Three process’ in minority influence
- consistency
- commitment
- flexibility
Consistency
Saying their view and opinion the same thing over and over again (repeat the same message) to make people question their existing views.
Commitment
Engage in risky activity’s to draw attention to their cause and show people the commitment you have to it that you’re willing to risk yourself for your cause. ( the augmentation principle)
Flexibility
If minority is too consistent and full on they are Deemed to be inflexible and uncompromising so majority unlikely to change view.
Minority needs to fund balance between consistency and flexibility
Outline Moscovici study of minority influence
Blue-green slide study
172 female students
In groups with 2 confederates and 3 other participants
Asked to say weather the slide shown was blue or green (but all were blue)
-condition A - confederates were consistent said all slides were green
-condition b- confederares inconsistent said 2/3 were green
Findings- consistent pp answered green in 8% of trails
Inconsistent pp answered green in 1% of trials

-minority can influence majority if they’re consistent with their views and message
X- ethical issues- deception thought they were taking part in colour perception test so can’t give informed consent
