Minor Injuries - Burnnd he Flashcards
Layers and associated function of the skin
Epidermis - protection and skin colour
Dermis - connective tissue, hair follicles and sweat glands to regulate our body temp
Hypodermis - fat and connective tissue
Step one pathophysiology
- Inflammatory reaction = rapid oedema
Step two pathophysiology
- Increased microvascular permeability
Risk factors and red flags for complicated burns
Risk - nerve damage, infection, loss of mobility
Red Flag - Location (genital, hand, feet, face) depth (hypodermis), Surface area (adult >15% child >10% TBSA)
Classification of burns
- Superficial (epidermis)
- Superficial partial thickness (dermis)
- Deep partial thickness (dermis)
- Full thickness (dermis)
- Deep (hypodermis)
Burns assessment
Cause: radiation, sun, chemicals, abuse
Surface Area
Depth
Location
Consciousness level and fluid loss
Burn management non-pharmacological
Reduce heat and tissue injury
Dust of chemical
Cover with cling wrap do not remove blister
Run under cold water for 20 minutes (superficial)
Burn management pharmacological
Burn aid dressing
ibuprofen for minor burn
Fluid - depending of % BSA
Step three pathophysiology
- Vasodilation
