Why is the Old Testament important?
It describes the beginning of God’s relationship with humans. It also contains promises that Jesus fulfills in the New Testament.
What does the word incarnation mean?
It means ‘made flesh’ and it refers to the time God became flesh (a human being in the form of Jesus)
What are 3 important titles that are given to Jesus?
Son of God and Son of Man, Messiah
What does Son of God mean?
It refers to him being the second person of the Trinity and reflects his equal status to God the Father.
What does Trinity mean?
God as 3 in 1
* The Father
* The Son
* The Holy Spirit
Who did they belive John the Baptist was?
The messenger- sent by God before the Messiah came to them
What was John the Baptists message?
John was passionate about the need
for people to give up their past
wickedness and make a fresh start
before the Messiah came.
What relation was John to Jesus?
Cousins
Where did John Baptise people?
John used to take people to the river Jordan and immerse them under the water
as a sign that they had changed. The water was a symbol that they had literally
washed away their sin and past life.
What happened at the Baptism of Jesus?
- Jesus asked to be Baptised - John said Jesus had no sin so didn’t need to be baptised.
- Jesus insisted he Baptise him.
- After Jesus was baptised he left the water and the clouds parted, a dove landed on Jesus and John heard a voice from heaven say ‘this is my dearly loved son’
Who did the white Dove at the Baptism represent?
The Holy Spirit.
Why was John the Baptist so important?
- John prepared people for the Messiah and completed the phrophecy made by Elijah in the old testament.
How did Jesus treat the marginalised?
Jesus treated the marginalised with respect even when other people looked at them in disgust.
Who did Jesus call to be his disciples?
He called ordinary people who were busy
