Buddhists do not worship a God or gods – they try to gain their own spiritual
development and reach a state of enlightenment
When do Buddists believe Siddhartha became enlightened?
Buddhists believe that when Siddhartha was an old man sitting underneath the Bodhi tree,
deeply absorbed in meditation, he became enlightened.
What is enlightenment?
Gaining the truth/wisdom about life and finding peace of mind.
What does Buddha mean?
A title meaning ‘The Enlightened
One’. Given to Siddhartha.
What is meditation?
Concentrating in order reduce anxiety, relax or enhance spirital growth
What did Siddhartha’s parents think about him?
They thought he would become extroadinary and do something great?
Who did Siddhartha see when he left the palace?
He saw an old man, sick man, begger monk and a dead man
What did Siddhartha try after starving himself did not help?
He sat below a Bodhi tree and meditated and did not move till he found the answer?
What did he realise after meditating?
He realsied that humans are never satisfied, they always want more - this never ends.
What does nirvana mean?
Niravana means blow out, all of your desires are blown out and you recieve piece.
