How does MIS work?
It is a series of small incisions. The surgical site is inflated with CO2 and an endoscope is placed inside the incisions.
What is a trocar used for?
A device used in MIS to create an access point in the body cavity for the cannula
What is a cannula?
A cannula is a hollow tube used to transfer liquids or gases into the patient
What are abdominal procedures called?
Laparoscopies
What are chest procedures called?
Thoracoscopies
What are joint procedures called?
Arthroscopies
What are the advantages to MIS?
Less pain and shorter recovery time
What is ABD surgery used for?
Diagnosing disease or trauma
What is laparascopic cholecystectomy?
gall bladder removal
What is laparoscopic bowel resection?
The removal of part of the small/large intestine due to blockage or disease
What is laparoscopic appendectomy?
Appendix removal
What is cardiothoracic surgery?
Surgical treatments for organs within the chest (e.g. heart, lungs, esophagus, etc.)
What is laryngoscopy?
A medical procedure where a laryngoscope is used to examine the back of the throat, larynx, and vocal cords
