Minerals Flashcards
Vitamin Vs Mineral
A vitamin is a compound. Elements however are just one. Plants need a variety of minerals eg. Nitrogen, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium.
How do plants get Nitrogen?
Nitrogen is taken up through the soil in the form of Nitrate (NO3). It is needed in order to form amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins.
How do plants get Magnesium?
Magnesium is taken in through the soil directing and is needed in order to form chlorophyll.
What minerals are absorbed from the soil water?
Minerals such as phosphate, potassium, magnesium, and nitrate ions are absorbed from soil water.
What is the element phosphorus needed for in plant cells?
The element phosphorus is needed for the plant cells to make many important compounds, like DNA.
What is the potassium ions required in plants?
Potassium ions are required for enzymes in respiration and photosynthesis to work.
What is Magnesium needed for?
Magnesium forms a part of the chlorophyll molecule.
Why do they need Minerals?
They need minerals for growth
