Minerals Flashcards
What’s crystallization?
Magma, that’s molten rock cools over time and solidifies. It can occur beneath or above the surface.
What’s igneous rock?
Rocks formed from the crystallization of magma.
What’s weathering?
Influences of the atmosphere slowly disintegrate and decompose rocks.
What’s sediment?
Particles or results of weathering and erosion which is carried
What’s lithification
Sediments converge into sedimentary rocks.
What’s sediment rock?
Rock is formed by the weathered products of a preexisting rock (ex: igneous undergoing weathering, sediment, and lithification) and has been transported and lithified.
What’s a metamorphic rock?
Preexisting rock deep within the Earth that’s already a solid state but is altered by heat/pressure, or chemically active fluids.
Alternative path for igneous rock?
Instead of weathering, igneous rocks can be buried deep subjected to intense heat and pressure becoming metamorphic.
An alternative path for metamorphic rock?
Can be transported by weathering undergoing sediment and lithification to sediment rock.
Hydrologic cycle
Enough time, water can be everywhere
Geologic time
Different eons, eras, periods, epics
Atom
Smallest fraction of an element
What are the main part of an atom?
Protons, neutrons, neutrons
Electron cloud
Where the electrons are
What’s atomic number?
The protons in a nucleus. Uncharged atom, this is the same as electrons
