The minsdet you adopt profoundly affects how you manage and respond to your life. It determines how you view risk and effort.
What is a fixed mindset?
The fixed mindset belives that qualities and abilities are set in stone. This creates an urgency to prove yourself over and over. every situation is an oportunity to prove your basic characteristics (or have them disproved) eg, i’m smart or i’m dumb. It makes you concerned with how you will be judged.
What is a growth mindset?
The growth mindset believes that qualities and characteristics can be cultivated by effort, strategies and help from others. The passion for learning and stretching yourself comes from a growth mindset.
What is the key concern of each mindset?
Fixed - how you’ll be judged
Growth - how you can improve
Can you change your mindset?
Mindsets are powerful beliefs, but ultimately they are choices.
What are some ways to grow your growth mindset?
- next time something is hard for you, and you feel yourself wanting to quit, think about your mindset. Do you want to get better? Keep going. Picture your brain forming new connections and changing as your persevere.
- seek constructive criticism, listen to it, don’t be defensive, use it as a means to improve.
- How do you act when you feel depressed? Do you work harder at things in your life or do you let them go? Next time you feel low, put yourself in a growth mindset—think about learning, challenge, confronting obstacles. Think about effort as a positive, constructive force, not as a big drag. Try it out.
- Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but were afraid you weren’t good at? Make a plan to do it.
