There are great stories in philosophy and science. One of them is where we came from, this aspect breaks into several different aspects one is: who is this person called a human- or indeed who is this person called a person? The question is not about the entity called human, but the identity within that entity.
It all depends, as professor Joad used to say, on what you mean by soul.
