Millwright Level 3 Math Formulas Flashcards
Formula for finding head pressure ( the pressure at bottom of a column of liquid)
Psi= FT × 0.433 × S.G
Or
Psi = FT × S.G
———
2.31
Calculate pressure created by column 30 FT tall
Psi =
30ft × 0.433 × 1= 12.99
Or
30ft ×1 ÷ 2.31=12.99
Formula finding ht of column of water or ft of head when psi is known
Ft = psi ÷ 0.433 × S.G
OR
FT= 2.31 × PSI ÷ S.G
Calculate the ht of column of water or ft of head if psi = 32.5
Ft= 32.5 ÷ 0.433 ×1 = 75ft
Or
Ft= 2.31× 33.5 ÷1= 75 ft
A pump produces 1000ft of head what is psi when pumping water
What is psi when pumping gas (s.g= 0.74 gass )
Water psi = 1000 × 0.433 × 1= 433 psi
Gass psi = 1000 × 0.433 × 0.74 = 320.4 psi
Formula hp to pump Gass (s.g 0.74)
Hp to pump water × 0.74
If a pump requires 595 hp t0 pump 2000 gpm of water how much hp to pump same volume of Gass (s.g 0.74)
595hp × 0.74 sg = 440 hp
How many ft of fresh water produces a pressure of 1 psi
