- Millard will serve consecutive life sentences with no parole eligibility for 50 years because the sentence does not violate his Charter rights
Factors considered in the Case
- First degree murder (most serious offence)
- Planned and Deliberate
- Murdered several people
- Punishment needs to deter potential serial killers
- Circumstances (incinerator, photos, song, etc.)
- Mitigating factors were not convincing
- Jury was unanimous
- Similar sentences have been given in similar convictions
Impact of the Case
- Longest sentence in the CJS
- Millard’s sentence was reduced to 25 yrs without parole due to the Bissonnette case (man who murdered 6 ppl was only given 25yrs w/o parole)
