Who was Milhaud?
A French composer, conductor and teacher during the 20th century period. He was a member of The Six which was a group of 6 composers in France who were strongly against the heavy German Romanticism.
Milhaud music style?
Studied with Widor and Dukas at the Paris Conservatory and was influenced by the anti-romantic style of Satie. His music is neoclassical style and is influenced by jazz and Latin American music. It often displays bitonality or polytonality.
When was Duo Concertant composed?
Composed in 1956 as a contest piece at Paris Conservatoire Contest, dedicated to the professor of clarinet there, Ulysse Delecluse.

- Playfulness and wit
- Predominantly diatonic harmony
- Parallel movement of chords and perfect 5th
- Dissonance and occasional bitonality
- Some use of flattened 3rd and 7th degrees- characteristic from Jazz music
