Who was Cavallini?
Cavallini was an Italian clarinetist and Composer. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and had a successful career as a touring virtuoso (often playing his own compositions) and as principle clarinetist of La Scala. He was popularly known as the Paganini of the clarinet and his playing inspired Verdi to write several clarinet solos in his operas.
Popular Compositions
Characteristic pieces, nationalistic dances, etudes, impromptus, rhapsodies and caprices. Caprices were a popular genre of the 19th century and often made great technical demands on the performer.
