He wanted to research why people obeyed Hitlers orders even though they were immoral. So he wanted to test obedience

Procedure

-40 male volunteers
-Pps were introduced to confed and selection of teacher and student was rigged
-Another confed dressed in a lab coat who was ‘experimenter’ , strapped learner to chair in a different room and attached electrodes
-Pps was told to deliver shock everytime learner got the wrong answer
-Shocks increased by 15 volts to 450 volts
-At 300 volts ‘learner’ made noise and refused to go on
-At 350 volts ‘learner’ made no more noise indicating unconsciousness or death
-If pps resisted the ‘experminter’ encouraged them to continue with phrases like ‘you have no other choice’ or ‘ you must go on’

-Participants continued to 300 volts
-12.5% stopped at 300 volts
-65% continued all the way to 450 volts
