From 1900 to the end of the second world war the majority of immigrants were Irish, followed by eastern europeans and Jews who were seeking refuge, very few were non white.
However from 1950 black immigrants from the Carabbien started to arrive followed by south Aisian in 1960/70.

Affect on society
One consequence is we have more of an ethnically diverse society as in 2011 ethnic minority groups accounted for 14% of the population- leading to greater family diversity.
Emigration
Since 1900 the majority of Emigrants go to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zeland or south Africa
Main reason people come are due to push or pull factors
Push- economic resession/ unemployment at home
Pull- better wages or opportunities abroad.
population size
The uk’s population size is currently on the rise- mainly due too immigration as net migration is high and we have more people immigrating than emigrating (583,000-323,000). And Non UK mother are accounting for around 25% of births in the UK
