What are the features of migraine?

A

Moderate or severe pain in head with pulsating quality. May be accompanied by:

  1. Visual aura
  2. Transient hemianopic disturbance
  3. Spreading scintillating scotoma (25% of cases)
  4. Nausea and vomiting

A

Oral triptan + NSAID or paracetamol

Consider nasal triptan in young people

  10. Alcohol
  11. Delayed, skipped or missed meals
  12. Bright lights
  13. Smoking
  14. Flickering screens

A

Topiramate (teratogenic) or propranolol

Propranolol preferred for women of child-bearing age
