Homeostasis
Ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions even though the outside world is changing
Negative feedback
Net effect of response is to shut off original stimulus or reduce intensity
Ex. Body temp, heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, blood levels of glucose, oxygen, carbon dioxide, minerals
Positive feedback
Net effect increases the original stimulus and pushes the variable farther from the original value
Ex. Blood clot, labor
Cranial cavity
Space inside skull
Spinal cavity
Space where spinal cord is located
Cranial to end of vertebral column
Thoracic cavity
Holds heart and lungs
Abdominal cavity
Contains stomach, liver, intestines, and other organs
Pelvic cavity
Contains reproductive organs, bladder, rectum
