Intellectual Disability
deficits in mental abilities and in everyday adaptive functioning, when compared to individual’s age, gender, and socioculturally matched peers
Autism
persistent impairment in reciprocal social communication and social interaction and restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities
ADHD
a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development
Tourette’s Disorder
multiple motor tics and one or more vocal tics; symptoms more than 1 year
Delusions
fixed beliefs that are not going to change even with conflicting evidence.
Hallucinations
perception-like experiences that occur without an external stimulus.
Delusional Disorder
Presence of one or more delusions that persist for at least 1 month
Schizophrenia
a range of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional dysfunctions
Schizoaffective Disorder
Uninterrupted period of illness with a major mood episode at the same time as criterion A of schizophrenia.
Manic episode
abnormal or persistent elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting 1 week
Hypomanic episode
abnormal or persistent elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting at least 4 days
Major depressive episode
at least 2 weeks with either a depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure in activities
Bipolar I
Must meet the criteria for a manic episode.
Bipolar II
one or more major depressive and hypomanic episodes
Major Depressive Disorder
at least 2 weeks with either depressed mood or the loss of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities
Acute Stress Disorder (ASD)
symptoms lasting from 3 days to 1 month following exposure to one or more traumatic events
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
The development of characteristic symptoms following exposure to one or more traumatic events; longer than 1 month
Difference between ASD and PTSD
ASD is distinguished from PTSD because the symptom pattern in ASD is restricted to a duration of 3 days to 1 month following exposure to the traumatic event. If symptoms persist for more than 1 month and meet criteria for PTSD, the diagnosis is changed from ASD to PTSD
Adjustment Disorder
The presence of emotional or behavioral symptoms in response to an identifiable stressor

Generalized Anxiety Disorder
excessive anxiety and worry occurring more days than not for a period of at least 6 months, about a number of events or activities
