- damp-heat in LV channel
- pain in hypochondria, headache, dizziness, red and sore eyes, hearing loss, swelling in ears, bitter taste in mouth, irritability, short temper, wiry-rapid-forceful pulse, red tongue w/ yellow coating
- also for difficult and painful urination w/ sensation of heat in urethra, swollen and pruritic external genitalia, or foul smelling leucorrhea, shortened menstrual cycle w/ reddish-purple blood

- fx: clears HT and promotes urination (not severe HT fire, water deficiency w/ fire that is no excessive)
- irritability w/ sensation of heat in chest, thirst w/ desire to drink cold water, red face, possibly sores around mouth, red tongue, rapid pulse
- also for dark, scanty, rough, and painful urination, or even blood in urine

- coughing, wheezing, fever w/ skin that feels hot to touch, all of which worsen in late afternoon
- also dry mouth, little or difficult-to-expectorate sputum, thin-rapid pulse, red tongue w/ yellow coating

- toothache, facial swelling, fever and bad breath, dry mouth, red tongue w/ little coating, slippery-large-rapid pulse
- also indicated for bleeding and gum sores, swollen and painful tongue, lips, or jaw; painful areas prefer cold, worsen w/ heat

- middle jiao yang deficiency: diarrhea w/ watery stools, nausea and vomiting, no thirst, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, pale tongue w/ white coat, submerged-thin pulse
- bleeding due to middle jiao yang deficiency: nose bleeds, vomiting blood, excessive menstrual bleeding, bleeding from rectum, various types of internal bleeding; in all cases, blood is pale and bleeding is accompanied by cold extremities, wan complexion, pale tongue, frail pulse
- chronic childhood convulsions

- fx: warms and tonifies middle jiao, moderates spasmodic abdominal pain
- intermittent, spasmodic abdominal pain that prefers warmth and pressure, lustreless complexion, reduced appetite, pale tongue w/ white coating, thin-wiry pulse
- may also have low grade fever, palpitations, irritability, cold and sore extremities w/ nonspecific discomfort, dry mouth and throat

- extremely cold extremities, aversion to cold, curling up when lying down, lethargy w/ constant desire to sleep, vomiting, diarrhea w/ undigested food particles, abdominal pain and cold, lack of thirst, pale tongue w/ white slippery coating, submerged-thin or faint pulse

- fx: enriches yin, nourishes KD
- LV-KD yin deficiency: soreness and weakness of lower back, lightheadedness, vertigo, tinnitus, diminished hearing, night sweats, spontaneous nocturnal emission, red tongue w/ little coating, thin-rapid pulse
- may also present w/ hot palms and soles, chronic dry and sore throat, toothache, wasting and thirsting disorder
- relatively intense fire from deficiency, eye disorders, or weakened SP-ST fx

- fx: warms and tonifies KD yang
- KD yang deficiency: lower back pain, weakness of lower extremities, cold sensation in lower half of body, tenseness in lower abdomen, pale swollen tongue w/ thin, white, moist coating, empty or frail pulse
- may also be irritable to point of difficulty in lying down, will breathe more comfortably when leaning against something, urinary difficulty w/ edema, or excessive urination, sometimes to point of incontinence
