Holism
The study of people-their orginds, their development, and contemporary variations, wherever and whenever they have been found

Ethnocentrism
The idea that cultural traits are best understood when viewed within the cultural context of which they are a part of
Cultural Relativism
A perspective in ethnography that used the concepts and categories that are relevant and meaningful to the culture under analysis. From an insiders vantage point.
Emic Approach
A perspective in ethnography that uses the concepts and categories of the anthropologists culture to describe another culture. From outsiders vantage point.
Etic Approach
Is what makes you a stranger when you are away from home

The process by which human infants learn their culture
Enculturation
A group of individuals sharing a common culture
Society
A change brought about by the recombination of already existing items within a culture. A new idea in which a culture can change.
Innovation
The spreading of a cultural trait from one society to another
Cultural Diffusion
A system of sounds that, when put together according to a certain set of rules, conveys meanings to its speakers.
Language
A position in a social system occupied by designated individuals
Status
The behavior expectations associated with a specific status
Role
Performances of different statuses by the same person conflict because role expectations conflict
