17
Q

Dominant political rationality

A

Framework of how we see and talk about politics and political framework. It sets that terms in which we understand our current social and political arrangements. It is dominant in the sense that it supplies the same work for everyone regardless of what their political standing. It is political in the sense that we have a set framework of how we view politics. An example of DPR is neoliberalism and post feminism.

18
Q

Neoliberalism

A

Theory of how political sphere should be shaped to maximize economic freedom (individual and corporate). It emphasizes traits like individual responsibility and consumerism. Government should be based off of business, free enterprise.

19
Q

New sexual contract

A

a post feminist settlement, a new deal for young woman, which call upon them to become economically self sufficient, but they must; embody norm of feminity and heterosexuality, abandon critique of gender norms, and hetronormitvity, participate in consumer culture, participate in marriage

20
Q

A

endowed with capacity to learn, earn, to consume “can do” girl. Celebrated as a successful political reform. Depicted favorably across popular media. She’s celebrated b/c she can consume and is not state dependent.

21
Q

Phallic girl

A

Sexually liberated, shown often in pop culture, women are encouraged to be sexually adventurous as long as they; retain femininity, don’t get pregnant before marriage b/c that means they need welfare, marriage is still end goal.

22
Q

Fashion-beauty complex

A

Domain of commercial fashion and beauty media, women oriented content and ads. Women encouraged to perform feminity and heterosexual desires. Example of FBC is makeup, fitted clothes, speaking softly
