The Appalacian Mountains made travel into TN difficult. The rich soil of the central Basin and flood plain provided good farming. TN’s rivers allowed for import and export of goods.
Why did settlers come through VA rather than NC?
The appalachian mountains form a wall and the only way to get through was the cumberland gap. Which began in VA

It was partially a constitution for the cumberland region, and partially a land buying contract
Why were the natives so hostile to cumberland settlers?
They were in close proximity to multiple native tribes and were invading on hunting ground.
