Midterm 1 Test Content Flashcards
Fallacies in critical thinking - REASONING
Fallacy=
A plausible argument that rests on invalid or false inferences
Dualism (B&W) Circularity (doesn't actually explain) ** appeal to ignorance (just because you've never heard anything back about a person does not mean they are good) Slippery slope (domino - if you don't pick up your clothes before you go to bed soon you'll be buried in clothes) Irrelevant reason (TV cant be harmful for kids because it keeps them off the streets) Hasty Generalization (I don't see how he can get elected because no one will vote for him - as far as I know...) Questionable analogy (comparing to incompatible analogies)
Anchoring effect and risk aversion
**domt choose anchoring effect, wtf that is cause it’s not in the text book or the moodle powerpoint
Instructor did not even go over this, just said it would be on the test, don’t choose anchoring effect. Wtf
Nature vs nurture theories
Binets 1899 assumptions
Mental abilities develop with age
Rate at which people gain mental competence is characteristic of person and constant overtime
How to calculate mental age
According to Stern’s Intelligence Quotient test
IQ = mental age divided by chronological age x 100
Spearmans general intelligence
G-factor (common skill set that underlies all of our intelligent behaviour
Using the factor analysis spearman found highly positive correlation among different specific abilities
Theories of multiple intelligences
- [1] Spearman’s general intelligence (basic intelligence)
- Thurstones [7] primary mental abilities (Word fluency, verbal comprehension, spatial ability, perceptual speed numerical ability, inductive reasoning and memory)
- **Gardners [8+1] multiple intelligences
( linguistic, logical-mathematical, music, spatial, bodily kinaesthetic, intra-personal, interpersonal, naturalistic, existential intelligence) - sternbergs [3] triarchic theory
(Analytical, practical, creative)
Thurstones 7

Sternburgs 3
