What is epidemiology?

A

The study of the distribution/prevalence, causes, and prevention of morbidity (disease) and mortality (death) in human populations
Doesn’t actually look at how to change trends

What is behavioural epidemiology?

A

A subset of epidemiology
Looks at distribution and causes (of disease) of health-related behaviours in populations
Understanding + influencing healthful behaviour patterns, population-wide initiatives to prevent disease and promote health (change-making)

What is population health? (Video that we watched)

A

It looks at a population’s health trends
Ex. Johnathon is obese, and at face value he eats too much and needs exercise
BUT if we look at the bigger picture, maybe his neighbourhood is too dangerous, maybe his parents can’t afford to eat healthy, what is he is bullied, maybe school doesn’t have phys ed
These things affect the entire population
