- Style is of a treaty found in Moses’ time

Be able to explain JEPD theory (aka Documentary Hypothesis)
- J: sections, verses, parts of verses that were written by one or more authors that use Jehovah when referring to God
- E: texts that use the name Elohim for God
- P: Priests, identifies the texts in Leviticus and elsewhere in the Pentateuch that were written by a priest/priests
- D: Deuteronomy, most was written by a different author or groups of authors
- then redactors combined these four independently written texts to form the Pentateuch

Know how the toledoth structure of Genesis functions (relate to Genesis 3:15)
- The toledoth structure refers to all of the genealogies found in Genesis. This helps us trace the one of the Messiah.
- Gen. 3:15 promises this Messiah and these genealogies show how the line progresses so it will eventually go all the way down to Him
Be able to defend 24 hour literal creation in Genesis 1
-The word used for day in Hebrew is used throughout the OT to mean al literal 24-hour day. Moses wrote this to people who were not that smart either having been slaves in Egypt, or being taught by people who were slaves in Egypt, so it makes sense that Moses uses the same word throughout the OT to mean a 24 hour day.
Be familiar with Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) elements in Genesis 1
Moses is essentially saying that he is busting ANE myths in Genesis 1. He uses a narrative verb form that ANE myths do not use to show this

Know how the six days fit together in Genesis 1 (1-3; 4-6)
- 1-3 have the locales being created
- 4-6 have the locales being filled
Know EVERYTHING ABOUT GENESIS 3:15 (including that it is called the Proteuangelium and how you see this develop in Genesis and corporate solidarity)

- see this continue in the Abrahamic Covenant with the promise of a seed
Know why the Flood needed to happen – tie with Noahic covenant and rest.

- Jesus was a priest in the order of Melchizidek
- was a great picture of Jesus
Know the significance of Jacob’s sojourns, the event at Bethel, Peniel, and why his name change is important
- Bethel: Jacob has a dream, Jacob vows to return and follow God, which he does
- Jacob gets a wife
- Peniel: Jacob wrestles with God, God shows Jacob that he keeps fighting, but will never prevail
