A

A

it tells the story of two lovers, separated by their parents’ feud, who speak to each other at night through a hole in a wall. In the play, a lion surprises Thisbe one night and tatters her mantle before she escapes. When Pyramus finds the shredded garment, he assumes that the lion has killed Thisbe; stricken with grief, he commits suicide. When Thisbe finds Pyramus’s bloody corpse, she too commits suicide.

there is a dijunc between how good they think they are vs what they actually are. there is an expectation they will be good as they’re playing for the Duke and Duchess, however Bottom’s bad execution proves otherwise, making it comedic

summarise act 2 scene 1

A

In the forest, two fairies, one a servant of Titania, the other a servant of Oberon, meet by chance. Oberon’s servant tells Titania’s to be sure to keep Titania out of Oberon’s sight, for the two are very angry with each other. Titania, he says, has taken a little Indian prince as her attendant, and the boy is so beautiful that Oberon wishes to make him his knight. Titania, however, refuses to give the boy up.
this sets up tension

Titania’s servant is delighted to recognize Oberon’s servant as Robin Goodfellow, better known as Puck, a mischievous sprite notorious for his pranks and jests. Puck admits his identity and describes some of the tricks he plays on mortals.
Oberon and Titania argue over an Indian boy. Oberon, enlisting the help of Puck, decides to use a magical juice which causes a person to fall in love with the first thing they see upon waking up.

A

Lysander and Hermia are getting ready to go to sleep - Lysander tries to sleep with her. Then Puck enters and thinks that this is Helena and Demetrius and squeezes the love juice. Then Helena and Demetrius enter running. Demetrius runs away, Hermia is dramatic and uses hyperbolic language, calling herself ugle etc. etc.. Lysander wakes up, falls in love with her, Helena doesn’t believe him, Lysander continues. They bothe leave and Hermia wakes up alone fro a nightmare.
