Start an Application
Click the start button and click application tile;
Open All apps and click the application name;
Type the application name in the Search box and select name from the list.
Logging In
You can log into Windows as a local network user or with your Microsoft account.
With Microsoft account you can log in on any Windows Computer and can access saved settings and access OneDrive account.
Work with Files
Three common file actions:
Creating a file;
Opening a file;
Saving a file.
Common Interface Components
Title Bar Ribbon Group Command Quick Access Toolbar Dialog Box Launcher
Title Bar
Identifies the current file name and the application in which you are working.
Ribbon
The long bar containing tabs, groups, and commands.
Group
A subset of a tab that organizes similar tasks together.
Command
Button or area within a group that you click to perform tasks.
Quick Access Toolbar
Group of buttons that provides fast access to commonly executed tasks.
Dialog Box Launcher
Button that when clicked opens a corresponding dialog box.
Dialog Box
Provides access to more precise, but less frequently used, commands.
Gallery
Area in Word which provides additional text styles, in Excel, a gallery provides a choice of chart styles, and in Power Point, provides transitions.
Shortcut Menu
Provides choices related to the selection or area that you right-click.

Enables you to search for help and information about a command or task, presents you with a shortcut to that command, and some times completes the action for you.
Enhanced ScreenTips
Small message boxes that display when you place the pointer over a command button.
The purpose, descriptive text, or shortcut will display in the box.
Add-Ins
A custom program or additional command that extends the functionality of a Microsoft Office program.
Available in the Microsoft Store; some free and some for a fee.
Templates
A predesigned file that incorporates formatting elements, such as a theme and layouts, and may include content that can be modified.
Select when you first open application or type the term in the Search box to find online templates.
Themes
A collection of design choices that includes colors, fonts, and special effects used to give consistency to a document, workbook, or presentation.

Word-double click the word.
Line-Click in margin to the left of the line.
Sentence-Ctrl + sentence.
Paragraph-Triple click paragraph.

Formatting Commands
Most common are found in the Font Group on the Home tab.
Mini Toolbar
Provides a faster way to apply formatting changes.
Provides access to the most common formatting selections.
Select any text and move pointer to activate.
Format Painter
Quickly and easily copy all formatting from one area to another in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Relocating Text
Three actions:
Cut-Removes and places in Clipboard.
Copy-Duplicates and places in Clipboard.
Paste-Places from Clipboard.
Clipboard
An area of memory reserved to temporarily hold selections that have been cut or copied and allows you to paste the selections.
Clipboard Pane
Clipboard Dialog Box Launcher.
Can hold multiple objects.
Check Spelling and Grammar
As you type - Word, PowerPoint. Proofing Group on Review Tab - Excel. Misspellings - Red wavy underline. Grammatical - Green underline. Usage - Blue underline.
Picture
Defined as a graphic element.
Click Pictures in the Images Group on the Insert tab.
Insert from Facebook, Flickr, Bing, OneDrive, Computer.
Picture Tools Format
Resize using Shape Height and Shape Width boxes, or drag sizing handles.
Use Picture Styles.
Crop.
