microscopy practical Flashcards
1
Q
what is a graticule and what do we use them for?
A
a small disc that has an engraved scale that we use to take measurements of cells
2
Q
what is a stage micrometer and why do we use it?
A
1) a scale engraved on a microscope slide
2) used to find out how many micrometers each graticule unit represents
3
Q
why do we have to use a stage micrometer with a graticule? (3)
A
1) graticules have no fixed units and therefore need to be calibrated
2) By using the two scales together the number of micrometers each graticule unit is worth can be worked out
3) the graticule can then be used as a ruler in the field of few
