Q

How do you work a microscope?

A
  1. Move the stage to the lowest position
  2. Place the object you want to observe on the stage
  3. Put the objective lens on the lowest magnification
  4. Turn the coarse focus knob until you see the object
  5. Focus your object with the fine focus
  6. Keep increasing you magnification using these steps

Q

What does the cell wall do?

A

This strengthens and supports the cell, It is made of as tough fibre called cellulose this the cell wall very rigid and ideal for keeping the cells shape.

Q

Why are red blood cells specialised?

A

They have a red pigment which joins to oxygen, they are disk/biconcave in shape allowing for more oxygen storage and they don’t have a neucleus

16
Q

Why are leaf cells specialised?

A

They have more chloroplasts and they are long and thin perfect for absorpstion

17
Q

Why are root hair cells specialised?

A

They are able to absorb water and despite being a plant cell don’t contain chloroplasts

18
Q

Which 2 substances move INTO cells?

A
  1. Glucose

2. Oxygen

19
Q

Which substance moves OUT of cells?

A

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

20
Q

What is this process called?

A

Diffusion

21
Q

If a substance has as high concentration outside a cell but a low concentration inside the cell what is Glucose or Carbon dioxide?

A

Glucose

22
Q

Why do plants wilt?

A

Because the Vacuole fills up with water if it doesn’t the plant become floppy and wilts

23
Q

What is a uni cellular organism?

A

It is an organism made of only one cell

24
Q

Briefly explain amoeba?

A
  1. Amoebas have no fixed shape
  2. Amoebas move by changing their body
  3. They can make parts of their body move in their desired direction of travel
  4. It is filled with cytoplasm and has a neucleus
25
Q

Briefly explain Euglena?

A
  1. They have an eye spot which detects light
  2. They move via flagellum in which the tail spins like an propeller
  3. This allows for maximum food potential as they move towards the light
