Microscopes, micropipettes, orientations Flashcards
Microscope parts.
Calculating total magnification.
TM = (ocular lens) x (objective lens).
Typically, the ocular lens has a magnification of x10.
Micropipette parts.
When you turn the plunger, you’re changing the volume setting.
Explain the difference between the first stop and the second stop of the micropipette plunger.
Use the first stop to collect fluid.
Use the second stop - the blowout - to expel liquid.
Body orientations.
Medial: toward the midline.
Lateral: away from the midline.
Ventral: toward the anatomical chest.
Dorsal: toward the anatomical back.
Anterior: toward the front of the body.
Posterior: toward the rear of the body.
Superior: higher up.
Inferior: lower down.
Proximal: closer to the origin of the body part in question.
Distal: farther from the origin of the body part in question.
In bipedal humans, ventral/dorsal and anterior/posterior refer to the same directions.
In quadrupedal animals, ventral/dorsal and superior/inferior refer to the same directions.
