What are microscopes?
Microscopes are instruments used to study and look at objects that are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
Eyepiece function
The lens to which you hold your eye and which enlarges the object
Tube function
Keeps the eye piece and the objectives at the right distance from each other
Coarse focus
Used to move the stage upwards and downwards
Fine focus
Used to obtain a clear image of the object
Arm
Connect the stage and the base and supports the objectives
Stage
Supports the microscope slides over the opening which allows light through from the light source
Stage clips
Clamps the slide
Diaphragm
Controls the amount of light moving to and through the object. It also focuses the light rays from the light source
Light source
Reflects light upwards to the opening of the stage
Base
The solid base that supports the microscope
