In anoxic environments, CH4 can be produced from the
reduction of CO2 and H2 by methanogens e.g.,
Methanococcus, Methanobacteria
* The methane produced is insoluble and flows to oxic
environments where it is oxidized
* CH4 produced is oxidized to CO2 by methanotrophs
