Microanatomy: GI tract 3: major accessory organs (liver, biliary system, pancreas) Flashcards
What are the different portions of the pancreas
endocrine - secretion delivered out bottom of cell into capillaries which are under cell and carried out to somewhere else
exocrine - secretory portions with columnar epithelial cells
What are acini cells
Clusters of columnar secretory cells that surround ducts (cuboidal)
What do acinar cells produce a lot of
Extensive rough endoplasmic reticulum and zymogen granules
What do the acinar cells produce
Pancreatic proteases
Pancreatic amylase
Pancreatic lipase
What do duct epithelial cells produce
Secrete bicarbonate ions to control pH in direct relation to the amount of HCl produced in the stomach
Water (all together is pancreatic juice)
Why don’t acinar cells digest themselves
Secretions are packaged and inactive
Where is bile synthesised and where is it secreted
Synthesised in the hepatocytes and secreted into the canaliculi
What do canaliculi combine to form
Bile ductules then portal tracts and finally common hepatic duct
