Micro Anatomy of Muscles Flashcards
Epimysium
a layer of connective tissue that surrounds the entire muscle
Perimysium
divide the skeletal muscle into bundles (Remember: Peri means around)
Fascicles
A bundle of muscle fibers surrounded by the perimysium.
Endomysium
surrounds each skeletal muscle fiber and ties adjacent muscle fibers together. (Remember: Endo means inside)
Sarcolemma
cell membrane that surrounds the sarcoplasm
Sarcoplasm
cytoplasm of muscle
Transverse tubules
passageways through muscle fiber
Sarcoplasmic Reticulum
Is a Smooth endoplasmic reticulum. Forms tubular network around each myofibril
Myofibrils
Bundles of thick myofilaments. Responsible for muscle contraction
Sarcomeres
smallest functional unit of muscle fiber
Actin
thin filaments
Myosin
thick filaments
Z line
Where actin is attached
M line
Where myosin is attached
A band
the area containing myosin
