Aims of tx for stable angina involves__
Management of acute anginal pain (GTN spray) long term prevention of angina attacks and CV events (BB and/or CCB as 1st line)
What CCB can be used in stabke angina?
Dihydropyridines, amlodipine, felodipine, MR nifedipine
If BB or CCB are CI or not tolerated what can be used as alternatives?
Long acting nitrate, Ivabradine, nicroandil or ranolazine
What anti anginal drugs are only licensed in adults?
Nitrates
CCBS
Potassium channel activators
Potassium channel activators, nicorandil.
How does nicorandil work?
Potassium channel activator, vasodilates arterial and venous sides
What side effect should you counsel a patient on when they are taking nicorandil?
Can cause serious eye, skin, mucosal ulceration, which can progress to perforation, haemorrhage, fistula, abcess. Seek medical attention
