QUINOLONES
A
- Suicidal beaviours and thoughts
- Qt prolonation/ aortic anyeurism/ heart valve regurgitation
- Use only if no other appropriate options available
- Increases risk of seizures (taking NSAIDs at the same time may also induce convulsions)
- Neuroloical effects/ peripheral neuropathy
- Tendon rupture/ tendonitis
- Sun sensitivity

TETRACYCLINES
A
- Benign intracranial hypertension (STOP & report on headache/ visual disturbance)
- Teeth discolouration & bone deposit (don’t give to children under 12 & prenant women)
- Hepatotoxicity
- Photosensitivity

CORTICOSTEROIDS
A
- Give a steroid card (if they are receiving long-term treatment (more than 4 weeks) and/or high doses
- Central serous chorioretinopathy

- Life-threatenin DKA!
Monitor ketones if treatment is interrupted (surgery/ illness) - Fournier’s gangrene

BISPHOSPHONATES
A
- Atypical femoral fractures
- Ostenecrosis of the jaw
- Osteonecrosis of the external auditory canal

CARBIMAZOLE
A
- Neutropenia and agranulocytosis- report sore throat, malaise, fever
- Congenital malformations- women should use effective contraception
- Acute pancreatitis- stop immediately and permanently if pancreatitis occurs
