MFB Flashcards
What is a manufactured board
Cheap in comparison to softwood and hardwood, comes in large sheets-can be cut to any shape/size, really thin usually but can have a range of thickness 3mm - 30mm, better to paint.
Plywood
Properties - plywood is made from thin sheets of wood (veneers) that are glued together with a grain direction of each layer at 90° to eachother, to reduce warping there are an odd number of layers (3,5, 7). The more layers, the stronger the wood. The layers of wood are glued together
Cost - fairly expensive.
MDF
(Medium density fibreboards)
- made of wood fibres (dust) and glue mixed together then compressed into sheets
Block board
strips of wood glued length ways, grains facing apposite ways.
Hard board
very thin sheets of wood glued in same drection.
Chipboard
Wood chips and glue compressed together into sheets
