What are the provisions for entering a track bed?
Permission has been granted by IC, Metro OCC has confirmed all power has been removed and movement has stopped, the ETS have been pushed for all affected sections of the track and the third rail has been tested
Is an ETS box placed at every end of each 3rd rail section?
No, blue light boxes and ETS are not placed at the end of every one
What must be realized if a new section of 3rd rail is encountered before coming to a ETS Box?
If they encounter a new section of the third rail before coming to the blue light box it may be energized
How many 3rd rail sections may be in a switching area, crossover area, or interlocking?
6 different sections
Does the 3rd rail power switches?
Yes
What must be done in order to safely work around switches?
Switches must be placed in the “blocked” position with 4 inch by 4 inch cribbing which is carried by rescue squads
How many and where wheel chocks shall be used on a Metro rail car?
4 wheel chocks to chock a wheel on each side of a car, chock in front of and behind each wheel
Electrical current can be stored in resistor grids of cars for how long after the 3rd rail power has been removed?
Up to 15 minutes
How long does it take for electrical power to be discharged after the operation of the Filter Capacitor Discharge Switch (FCDS)?
15 seconds
When may stray current on the running rail be higher than normal?

Flagging is used to warn oncoming trains of an obstruction on the tracks
