Methods of retrieval Flashcards
1
Q
Recall
A
Recall (least sensitive)
Reproducing information with few or no cues.
- Free Recall
Reproducing information with no cues
- Cued Recall
Reproducing information with a hint or cue
- Serial Recall
Reproducing information in an order or sequence
2
Q
Recognition
A
Recognition (second most sensitive)
Involves identifying the correct alterative amongst a list of alternatives . Eg mulitiple choice awnser
3
Q
Relearning
A
Relearning (Most sensitive)
Learning information that has previously been learnt and stored in LTM
If information is learnt more quickly the second time, it is assumed that there must be information retained from the original learning experience.
4
Q
Reconstruction
A
- Memory reconstruction generally involves combining stored information with other available information to form what is believed to be a more coherent or complete memory.
- It is influenced by many factors: prior knowledge, past experience, values, psychological state, cues in the environment , motivations, expectations and assumptions
- What is retrieved is not always a perfect reproduction of what happened at the time of encoding.
