Learning can be quicker
Unsuitable for complex skills

When skill is low in organisation and learning serial and complex skills

Provides early success
Safer
allows teacher to focus on particular parts of skill
Some performers may experience difficulty putting it into parts
Continuity of skill is lost
Reduces kinaesthetic awareness
