methods Flashcards
What does an inhibitor do
Protects iron in central heating system
What does a galvanised coating do
Protects LCS from environment and oxygen in water
What is dezincification
Form of corrosion that can occur within a plumbing and heating system
What is electrolytic corrosion
Happens where dissimilar metals are in contact with each other through the presence of an electrolyte
What is pitting
After a solder joint is made, if flux is not cleaned off the outside of the tube and flushed out of the inside of the copper tube at the commissioning stage, the copper could be affected by type 1 pitting corrosion
What is water
Chemical compound of hydrogen and oxygen
What is temporary hardness
Contain calcium carbonates and can be removed by heating the water above 65°C, the temporary hardness is released as scale
What is permanent hardness
Contains calcium sulphates and can only be removed by a base exchange material (water softener)
What does water have the ability to do to lead
Dissolve it, this is called plumbosolvent
What is water that is aggressive towards copper called
Cuprosolvent
