Two Major Methods of Study

Use of official data: crime figures, census reports, housing and welfare records applied to geographical layouts of the city to highlight areas of high crime and poverty
Life history: W. I. Thomas studies this form and developed it into ethnography. This method aimed at interpreting people in time and space as they naturally appear (aka “Ecological School”)
