Q

Cite and explain to animals or inanimate objects that Kafka wrote about

A

Apple- symbolizes the death of gregor and downfall of humans in the bibles

Door- symbolizes isolation from his family

16
Q

What is the significance of the cleaning woman

A

She brings new life to the family by ridding them of Gregor

17
Q

Why did Kafka not name the bug

A

Kafka didnt name the bug because he didn’t want the readers to think of it as a specific type of bug. He called it a vermin to show much of a nuisance he was to the family and the dread he brought.

18
Q

How is the story about society and its inability to accept everyone

A

Gregor turns into a giant bug and immediately begins to see the changes in his family. His father began to shun him first. Whether he was a bug or not, he was still a part of the family and his family never treated him that way with the exception of Grete for part of the book. The cleaning lady didn’t hesitate to get rid of him either. Kafka makes this just like real life because people didn’t accept him for the sole reason that he was different. Even though he was different, doesn’t mean he should be treated differently

19
Q

How does Gregor become dehumanized

A

Gregor becomes dehumanized in many ways more than just the actually transformation of a human to a bug. The dehumanization is described through the changes is Gregor’s personality and the changes in everyone’s character around him as a result of his transformation. As time goes on, not only does the family not accept him, but he also begins to not accept himself. He looks at himself as a nuisance and as he is holding the family back. He begins to alienate himself from the family As a result of this.
