Metamorphic Rocks Flashcards
Describe the different processes that take place during metamorphism.
The 3 different processes are CONTACT: produces NON-FOLIATED rocks like MARBLE, HORNFELS ETC. REGIONAL: Caused by LARGE GEOLOGIC PROCESS and produces GNEISS AND SCHIST. DYNAMIC occurs because of MOUNTAIN BUILDING.
How do rocks and minerals change under metamorphic condition?
They change by adding enough heat in which the rock physical appearance changes but the rock doesn’t melt entirely.
Describe different types of metamorphism and metamorphic rocks that formed through them.
Metamorphic rocks create FOLIATED and NON-FOLIATED ROCKS. FOLIATED rocks have LAYERS AND PATTERNS. NON-FOLIATED rocks have NO PATTERNS OR LAYERS.
