Voicing
When a consonant sound is produced, there is a vibration of the vocal cords. This vibration is called voicing.
When you say ‘zzz’ and place your fingers on the throat you can feel the vibrations
Place of articulation
The location of the contrition of the vocal cord in the vocal cord to produce consonants is known as the place of articulation.
Using the hard palate to make a sound
Manner of articulation
The way in which the airflow is obstructed in the vocal tract when producing a consonant sound.
Stop a total blockage of the outgoing airflow in the oral cavity
assimilation
When a sound changes to become more like a neighbouring sound.
‘Bitter’ is pronounced [bɪde]
Vowel reduction
Vowels in an unstressed position, reduced to a schwa only
‘To’ [tu] reduced to [tə]
Elision
The omission of a sound in connected speech
‘Cos’ for because or ‘didn’t’ for did not
Insertion
Addition of sound where they don’t strictly belong.
Instead of ‘souvlaki’ people insert a vowel making it sound like ‘souv-e-laki’
Alliteration
the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of words in a phrase or sentence.
Betty bought bitter butter
Assonance
the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of words in a phrase or sentence.

Consonance
the repetition of the same consonant or consonant blend two or more times in a short phrase or sentence
MiKe liKes his biKe
Rhythm
the measured flow of words and phrases in verse or prose as determined by the relation of long and short or stressed and unstressed syllables.
Rhyme
(of a word, syllable, or line) have or end with a sound that corresponds to another.
Snack, back and crack all rhyme
