Metabolism: the cellular factory. Flashcards
1
Q
how are amino acids biosynthesised?
A
Amine:
- nitrate to nitrite to carboxylic acid
- by NADPH
Carboxylic Acid:
- carbon skeleton with a carboxyl group found in TCA cycle
Functional groups:
these can be swapped easily once the base aa has been made
2
Q
how are fatty acids biosynthesised?
A
CoA carries acetyl units
Each time an acetyl group is added to a chain, 4 electrons are used.
3
Q
What ate the backbones of metabolic systems in heterotrophs?
A
- Glycolysis
- Pentose phosphate pathway
- TCA cycle
